Cross-reference study

Read two passages at once.

Open a verse, follow it to the passage it points at, and hold both on one screen. Prophecy beside fulfilment. Quotation beside source. No tab juggling, no losing your place.

  • 60,000+ built-in cross-references
  • Save your own connections and revisit them any time
  • Switch either side to a different translation
The Rooted Word cross-reference view: Isaiah 53:5 on the left, John 19:34 on the right, both verses shown in full.

Your Web of Scripture

Watch your study take shape.

Every connection you save is drawn as a thread across the canon: Genesis on the left, Revelation on the right. Months of quiet study, visible in one picture.

  • Threads arc from where a verse begins to where it lands
  • Tap any thread to reopen that connection
  • Filter by Old Testament, New Testament, or both
The Web of Scripture screen: coloured arcs connecting books of the Bible across a timeline from Genesis to Revelation.

Bible AI

Ask anything. Get Scripture back.

A study companion that stays on the Bible. Ask what a phrase means, how two books relate, or where to start tonight. Answers come back with the references, tappable, so you can go read them yourself.

  • Verse references open straight into the reader
  • Keeps to Scripture, faith and life. Nothing else
  • Your conversations stay in your account
The Bible AI chat: a question about what "my cup overflows" means in Psalm 23, answered with the passage explained and linked.

The reader

A page that feels like paper.

Warm, quiet typography built for long reading. Section headings, verse numbers, chapter-to-chapter navigation, and four translations a tap apart.

  • Berean Standard, King James, New Living, World English
  • Highlight verses, add notes, save bookmarks
  • Chapters are bundled in the app, so it reads offline
Psalm 23 open in the Rooted Word reader, set on a warm parchment background with verse numbers and chapter navigation.

And the everyday things, done well.

  • Verse of the Day

A passage waiting for you each morning, on the home screen and in a widget.

  • Rooted Practice

A gentle streak that counts the days you showed up, not the chapters you owe.

  • Bookmarks & notes

Keep what struck you, with your own words attached to the verse.

  • Highlights

Colour a verse the way you would in a paper Bible. It stays where you left it.

  • Search that understands

Look for a half-remembered phrase or an idea, not just an exact string.

  • Synced everywhere

Highlights, notes and connections follow your account to any device you sign in on.

How it works

Three taps from a verse to the whole story.

There is nothing to configure and nothing to import. Open the app, start reading, and the connections are already there waiting.

Open a passage.

Start from the Verse of the Day on the home screen, search for a half-remembered phrase, or jump straight to a book and chapter. Everything is bundled in the app, so it opens with or without a signal.

The Rooted Word home screen showing the Verse of the Day, a Cross References card, Ask Bible AI, and the Rooted Practice streak.

Follow the thread.

Tap a verse to see where else Scripture says it. Pick one of the references and both passages open together, side by side, so you can read the prophecy and the fulfilment in the same breath.

Isaiah 53:5 and John 19:34 opened together in the cross-reference view.

Keep the connection.

Save it. It joins your list of connections and gets drawn into your Web of Scripture, the map of everything you have linked so far. Come back in six months and your study is still there, one tap from where you left it.

Questions, answered.

Is Rooted Word free?

Yes. It is free to download on the App Store, and it is built as a non-profit, donation-supported project, not an ad business.

Which translations are included?

The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), King James Version (KJV), New Living Translation (NLT) and World English Bible (WEB). You can switch translations on any chapter, and on either side of a cross-reference.

Does it work offline?

Bible text is bundled with the app, so chapters read fine with no connection. Sync, search and the Bible AI need internet.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Rooted Word is an iPhone app today. The Discord community is the first place that news will land.

What exactly is a cross-reference?

A link between two passages that speak to each other: a prophecy and its fulfilment, a quotation and its source, or a shared theme. Rooted Word ships with more than 60,000 of them, and lets you save your own.

Do my highlights and notes sync?

Yes, to any device you sign in on. Highlights, notes, bookmarks and saved connections all travel with your account.

Who makes it?

Rooted Word is published by Rooted Word LLC. Questions, bugs and ideas are all welcome at hope.adebayo02@gmail.com.
